Cancer Center Voi
The County Government Taita Taveta has joined forces with partners to launch the first-ever cancer centre in the County at the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi.
The fully equipped Cancer Clinic is expected to play a pivotal role in the detection and management of cancer.The centre will be beneficial to residents within and outside the County including citizens from neighbouring Tanzania, as some have been seeking the services from as far as Mombasa and Nairobi.
As of late 2024 and early 2025, the cancer center at Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi was being equipped and prepared for full operation.

Modern Markets
The Governor of Taita Taveta County Wakujaa, has plans to develop modern markets in the region. These projects include the Mwatunge ESP Market in Mwatate and the Voi Modern Market These ventures are intended to provide traders with modern facilities and stimulate economic growth. The Voi project is a KES 350 million initiative that will see traders temporarily relocated to allow for construction.
Examples of modern markets in Taita Taveta County
Mwatunge ESP Market (Mwatate): This market includes modern amenities such as a computer lab, hotel, children’s play area, store, lactation room, and cold room.
Voi Modern Market: A flagship project worth KES 350 million. Traders from the existing Voi Upper Market will be relocated to a temporary site during construction.

Rice Mills Taveta
The Taveta Rice Milling Plant is Complete to add value to rice production,Support local farmers and create jobs. The plant aims to eliminate the need for farmers to rely on middlemen and improve the market for their produce.
Purpose: The plant’s goal is to add value to the rice produced in Taveta, increase food security, and create jobs for residents.
Cost: The estimated cost for the project is KSh. 45 million.
Impact on farmers: The plant is expected to benefit local farmers by providing a more direct market for their crops and helping them avoid exploitation by middlemen.
Current rice production: Taveta currently has 1,200 hectares under rice cultivation, with over 2,000 farmers producing an estimated 7,500 metric tons of rice annually.
