Governor Andrew Mwadime (popularly known as Wakujaa) and Chawia Ward MCA Hon. Joseph Mabishi have recently collaborated on several development initiatives and policy shifts aimed at improving livelihoods in Chawia Ward and the broader Mwatate Sub-County.

Recent Projects and Initiatives in Chawia Ward

  • Wezesha Jamii Programme Launch: In late 2025 and early 2026, the Governor began rolling out the Wezesha Jamii Programme, a poverty alleviation initiative organized into Business Savings Groups. Chawia is among the wards targeted for this pilot phase, which provides training and mentorship to vulnerable households.
  • Community Empowerment (Tents and Chairs): Governor Mwadime and Hon. Mabishi recently distributed 7 tents and 700 plastic chairs to seven villages within Chawia Ward. These were procured following community requests during the 2023/2024 public participation exercise to support local social gatherings and events.
  • Water Infrastructure (Sechu Community Tank): A 250 cubic meter community water tank was recently completed in Sechu, Chawia Ward, at a cost of approximately Ksh 8 million. This project, a partnership with World Vision Kenya, aims to provide clean water to over 18,000 households once final fittings are completed by the county.
  • Borehole Solarization: Chawia is one of the wards benefiting from a Ksh 400 million project to solarize boreholes. This initiative, implemented with REREC, aims to reduce the cost of water pumping and ensure a more reliable supply.
