H.E. Governor Andrew Mwadime has officially commissioned the KES 51 million worth Ngolia-Mbololo Water Supply Project, a joint initiative by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) and the county government of Taita Taveta.
Speaking to a cordial crowd, the Governor highlighted his development track record, adding that the county, under his administration, contributed KES 16.4 million to the capital project, “15,000 people from Tausa, Ndome, Mraru, and Mbololo locations are set to benefit.
The initiative’s proximity to the industry in Manga will help in industrialisation,” the county boss remarked.
The Deputy Governor, H.E. Christine Saru Kilalo, added that the water initiative is a solution towards managing human-wildlife conflict as women in these underserved areas will walk shorter distances.
“Some have lost lives to wild animals when walking longer distances to fetch this precious commodity,” she added.
CECM Water, Sanitation, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources Grantone Mwandawiro lauded the cordination efforts that are enabling implementation.
Shallow Abdullahi Yahya, Chair of NDMA, in his concluding remarks stated that some areas being covered by the project have not accessed tap water since independence.
