Mata Ward

Under the “Wakujaa” administration led by Andrew Mwadime, Mata Ward in Taita Taveta County is benefiting from a range of high-impact infrastructure and social development initiatives. These projects are strategically designed to strengthen food security, improve transport networks, and enhance access to education and community support services.

Key Projects

Irrigation and Food Security

  • Njoro Ndogo Canal: Ongoing development of a 2 km irrigation canal aimed at improving water distribution for farming and boosting agricultural productivity within the ward.

Infrastructure and Roads

  • Mokoi Box Culvert: Construction of a key culvert to enhance road accessibility and ensure reliable movement during all seasons.
  • Road Upgrades: Mata Ward is also included in broader county-wide road improvement programmes aimed at enhancing connectivity and supporting economic growth.

Community Empowerment

  • Empowerment Grants: Community groups in Mata and Chala wards have received a combined KSh 3.34 million under the County Empowerment Programme, supporting grassroots businesses and income-generating activities.

Education and Vocational Training

  • Mata Vocational Training Centre: Officially launched in February 2026, the centre provides youth with access to technical skills development and vocational training opportunities.

Healthcare and Social Support

  • Food Relief Programme: Vulnerable households in Mata Ward benefited from a KSh 1 million food distribution initiative during the festive season, aimed at mitigating the effects of drought and climate-related challenges.

Other Initiatives

In addition to ward-specific projects, several county-wide programmes under the “Wakujaa” agenda are directly benefiting Mata Ward:

  • Water Access: Expansion of water infrastructure through borehole drilling and solarization, alongside long-term initiatives such as the Taveta Bulk Water Project to ensure reliable rural supply.
