Based on recent reports, Mwatate Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hon. Joseph Kennedy Mwalegha (Ankoo) has been actively involved in inspecting and launching various county infrastructure and community projects throughout 2025 and early 2026.
Key projects and initiatives associated with Hon. Mwalegha in Mwatate Ward include:
1. Water Projects (Josa-Modambogho-Landi)
- Josa–Modambogho Water Project: As of November 2025, rehabilitation works were nearing completion, involving the installation of a 350 m³ steel tank, renovation of 11 distribution tanks, and laying of a new pipeline to serve areas like Landi Maili-Kumi, Mdindinyi, California, and Mgeno.
- Community Engagement: In September 2025, Hon. Mwalegha facilitated community engagements for the expansion of this project in Cheleka Village, in partnership with the County Water Department and Kenya Red Cross Society.
- Intake Renovation: Mwalegha has advocated for the rehabilitation of the Ngiriwuni intake to further improve water access.
2. Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation
- Peleleza Feeder Roads: Maintenance works began in August 2025 to repair roads heavily damaged by rains, enhancing connectivity within the Mwatate sub-location.
- Majengo Road Network: In November 2025, rehabilitation of the Majengo road network commenced in partnership with Teita Estate Ltd, which provided machinery for the works.
3. Education and Vocational Training (Joseph Kennedy Foundation)
- Education Sponsorship: On January 20, 2026, the Joseph Kennedy Foundation, led by Hon. Mwalegha, disbursed KSh 333,875 to support needy students, in collaboration with partners including Hon. Danson Mwashako.
- School Uniform Support: The foundation provided school uniforms to students from underprivileged families in January 2026.
- Vocational Training Support: In November 2025, Mwalegha visited Mlambenyi Vocational Training Centre to support students under the Dimisha Sponsorship Program, promising toolkits for top performers in courses like garment making and motor vehicle mechanics.
