The County Government has set aside Ksh 2.9 million in the FY 2025/26 for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in Wumingu/Kishushe Ward to support grassroots development.
Addressing residents of Nyache and Mghambonyi during the launch of the Nyache and Wumingu Locations CBO, H.E Dr. Andrew Mwadime – Wakujaa, EGH, Governor Taita Taveta County said, the CBO will empower communities to drive their own development and enable them access grants and funds for economic empowerment from different sources.
“This is a noble initiative that will enable community members to identify and address their own needs, promoting inclusivity and sustainability, ” Governor Mwadime said.
The ward has significant progress including the opening of the Mwambogho-Mwanaria road, purchase of equipment for Nyache Dispensary, issuance of grants, rehabilitation of Mghambonyi market shed, construction of Mbonunyi ECDE, and grading of several roads.
Upcoming projects include, the construction of Wala ECDE, opening up of Maghale Daku Kishushe road, and rehabilitation of Ngelelenyi dam.

- Wumingu Cooling Plant: The facility continues to serve as a hub for dairy farmers, supporting over 24 villages and handling significant daily milk volumes, with support from Kenya Crops and Dairy Market Systems (KCDMS).
- CBO Empowerment: Launch of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) such as the Nyache and Mghambonyi CBOs, with Ksh 2.9 million allocated for 2025/26 to support local development and economic grants.
- Mghambonyi Market Shed: Rehabilitation of the market to support local traders.
- Mining Development: Continued focus on iron ore and graphite exploitation in the region, with advocacy for local beneficiation.ย
Education and Health
- ECDE Construction: Construction of the Mbonunyi Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) center, with further projects planned for Wala ECDE.
- Wumingu Technical and Vocational College: Ongoing construction and development of student facilities.
- Nyache Dispensary: Upgrades and equipment purchases for improved healthcare services.ย
Policy and Planning
- Ward Development Fund: Projects for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 financial years have focused on water, roads, and education, with active public participation.
